A split hits the Kurdistan Union over Barham Salihs second termOn Tuesday, a political source revealed that the old leaders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) refused to nominate the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, for a new term.

The source said that “the old leaders and prominent leaders in the Political Bureau and the Leadership Council nominate the official of the party’s working body, Mullah Bakhtiar, to take over the presidency of the republic.”

He added that “these leaders consider Saleh a failure in his position, and only the co-chairman of the party, Bafel Talabani, and his brother, the deputy prime minister of the regional government, Qubad Talabani, insist on him.”

The political forces are preparing to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, which will take place on the tenth of next month, in the hope of forming a new government capable of ending the various crises the country is going through.
