The Iranian currency continued its decline against the US dollar on Wednesday, with the price of the American currency exceeding the 230,000 toman mark in the free market, amid sharp fluctuations that coincided with the escalation of military confrontation in the region.

According to data from the Iranian exchange market, which was monitored by Shafaq News Agency, the selling price of the dollar reached about 233,000 tomans during trading on Wednesday afternoon, before it declined slightly to 232,200 tomans, while the buying price reached about 229,900 tomans.

This means the dollar rose by about 3,300 tomans, or 1.44%, compared to the previous day’s price of 228,900 tomans, while the US currency’s gains against the toman exceeded 5% in one week.

The latest plunge in the Iranian currency comes at a time of escalating military tensions between Iran and the United States, with attacks spreading to oil tankers, facilities and shipping lanes near the Strait of Hormuz.
