Today, Tuesday, the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee revealed the latest developments in the Oil and Gas Law, while confirming the existence of partisan political reasons delaying the arrival of the draft law to Parliament.

Committee member Intisar Al-Jazairy said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The draft oil and gas law is still in the corridors of the government, under study and analysis, and it has not been sent to the House of Representatives or any specific parliamentary committee such as Finance, Oil and Gas.”

She added, “There are many reasons that may obstruct or delay this law from reaching Parliament, including political and partisan ones. That is, every governorate that owns oil finds it subject to political and partisan whims.”

A member of the Parliamentary Oil Committee explained, “After concluding the session to elect the Speaker of the House of Representatives, we hope to begin in a real and correct way to consider important laws such as the oil and gas law and taxes.”

Al-Jazairi stressed “the need to do justice to Basra Governorate in the oil and gas law.”

The political analyst, Sabah Al-Ukaili, had previously seen that the Kurdistan region continues to pose obstacles to the approval of the oil and gas law, while he stressed that the adoption of the law will prevent all disputes in the oil provinces, especially the Kurdistan region.

The Kurdish parties continue to obstruct the approval of the oil and gas law, which a vote on within the corridors of Parliament has become a must, in order to end the violations and thefts carried out by the Kurdistan Regional Government regarding the oil smuggling file.
