The Information Agency / Baghdad –
MP Haider al-Mutairi called on the incoming parliament on Thursday to overcome the shortcomings that plagued its fifth session, particularly regarding the obstruction or neglect of several important laws affecting the state and broad segments of society. He stressed the need for regular attendance and an end to the recurring absenteeism that negatively impacted the legislative body’s performance.
Al-Mutairi told the Information Agency that “the next parliament faces significant challenges that require serious effort and a high degree of responsibility to overcome.” He pointed out that “the first step in this direction is for all political forces to engage with national issues of concern to the Iraqi people and to work on enacting laws that strengthen the state’s sovereignty and support the reform process.”
He added that “the most important task for the next parliamentary session is passing the long-awaited pending laws, foremost among them the oil and gas law and the investment law, given their importance in achieving economic development and creating job opportunities, as well as amending the public retirement law, laws related to education, and other legislation that directly affects citizens’ lives.”
Al-Mutairi stressed that “commitment to attendance and abandoning the culture of absenteeism is essential to ensuring the effectiveness of the next parliament and its ability to perform its duties as required.”
