On Tuesday, Aqil al-Fatlawi, a member of the Coordination Framework, denied rumors circulating about the possibility of US economic sanctions being imposed on Iraq. He emphasized that the rumours being circulated in this regard are merely political speculations not based on any real facts .
Al-Fatlawi told Mail, “The recurring talk of impending US sanctions on Iraq is merely speculation launched by some politicians from time to time, and is not based on any facts or tangible evidence .”
He added, “The relationship between Iraq and the United States is witnessing a great degree of balance, and there is nothing in it that calls for the imposition of sanctions .”
Earlier, political circles circulated speculation about the possibility of US sanctions being imposed on Iraq, at a time when the Iraqi government is seeking to maintain a diplomatic balance with various international parties .
