Former Member of Parliament, Wael Abdel Latif, asked today, Saturday, about the reasons for not sending the final accounts of the 2023 budget from the government, while confirming that all the parties responsible for auditing the final accounts of the budget of revenues and expenditures did not request them.

Abdel-Latif said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The tripartite budget project did not succeed given that it was not approved in January of the current year,” describing: “The government’s approach to approving a tripartite budget is an “innovation that does not exist on the ground.”

He continued, “The government did not oblige the region to implement the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, which stipulates that the region is obligated to hand over oil revenues and ports before sending the dues,” noting that “the current government and all successive governments departed from the constitutional texts and did not implement them.”

Abdul Latif concluded his speech: “Raising the rates of financial allocations to the Kurdistan region and reducing them in the southern governorates is tantamount to a political courtesy from Baghdad to Erbil,” adding that “all the parties responsible for auditing the final accounts of the budget for revenues and expenditures did not demand it.”

Many popular and political circles criticized the paragraphs included in the budget by increasing the region’s share and reducing allocations to the southern governorates, even though they represent the main economic resource for Iraq.
