The Associated Press quoted officials on Saturday as saying that the US aircraft carrier Gerald Ford had entered the Red Sea, accompanied by two US Navy destroyers.
According to officials, the carrier is heading towards areas near the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that this move comes within the framework of strengthening the American military presence in the region, amid renewed regional tensions.
Earlier on Saturday, the spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its return to its previous state, confirming that the Iranian armed forces continued to control the waterway.
The military spokesman said that the Strait of Hormuz would remain under the control of the armed forces and under strict surveillance, noting that the continuation of this situation depended on the United States not committing to guaranteeing the freedom of movement of ships to and from Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Friday that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to all commercial vessels until the end of the ceasefire.
Araghchi said in a post on the “X” platform that “following the announcement of the ceasefire in Lebanon, all commercial ships are allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz for the remainder of the ceasefire period.”
