The leader of the State of Law coalition, Jassem Muhammad Jaafar, denied, on Wednesday, the existence of an agreement to nominate the head of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and the head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis al-Khanjar, as Vice Presidents.
Jaafar said in a statement to / the information /, that “the statement of Representative Adnan Al-Zarfi regarding the appointment of the head of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and the head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis al-Khanjar, my vice-president, is not true,” noting that “Al-Zorfi’s statement may be personal.”
He added that “the issue of the Vice-President of the Republic is still under discussion because there are several opinions,” explaining that “there are those who go to nominate one deputy and are nominated from the most numerous bloc, which is the rule of law, and there is an opinion that sees the nomination of three deputies.”
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi constitution stipulates in Article (61) item first that the President of the Republic has the power to choose one or more deputies, provided that the number does not exceed three deputies.
