Military forces deployed extensively today in front of the gates of the US embassy in the center of the capital, Baghdad.
The Special Forces deployed in front of the embassy after the protesters withdrew.
Protesters from the popular crowd had withdrawn yesterday from the vicinity of the American embassy after they stormed it and threw stones at the building in protests that lasted for two days.
The protest came against the backdrop of American air strikes targeting Hizballah brigades last Sunday that killed at least 27 people.
By Wednesday afternoon, most of the protesters appeared to have responded to a withdrawal call by the PMF.
