Member of Parliament Jassem al-Moussawi confirmed, today, Thursday, that the quorum for the session to choose the president of the republic amounted to more than 277 deputies, while he revealed the best candidate to choose the president, specifying the date of forming the government.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with the “Information” agency, that “there is a trend by the political blocs to resolve the file of the Presidency of the Republic,” stressing that “the balance is currently tilted in favor of candidate Abdul Rashid Latif.”
He added, “The quorum of the session reached more than 277 deputies, which was achieved for the first time in the sessions for selecting the President of the Republic,” noting that “the choice will not be decided in the first round because the candidate needs 220 votes.”
The member of the House of Representatives explained that “the selection of the president of the republic will take place during the second round, which includes the most votes to choose the candidate, and the first round will end soon, and we will start with the second.”
And regarding assigning the President of the Republic the candidate of the largest bloc to form the government, Al-Moussawi stressed, “Assigning the candidate of the largest bloc to form the government remains the prerogative of the President of the Republic,” noting that “one of the most important quick and important decisions is to assign the Prime Minister to form the government.”
And the deputy expected, “In the near time, after resolving the file of the Presidency of the Republic today, or a maximum period of a week, is to assign the candidate for the coordination framework for the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, to form the government.”
