A leader in the Badr Organization revealed on Thursday that the Coordination Framework, which includes Shiite political forces, held a closed meeting away from its regular meeting and in the absence of candidates for the position of Prime Minister, during which it discussed mechanisms for choosing the most suitable person to lead the next government, with five possible names being put forward to assume the position.
Moein Al-Kadhimi told Shafaq News Agency that the leadership of the Coordination Framework held a meeting this week, separate from its regular weekly meeting, and without the presence of the candidates for the position of Prime Minister.
Al-Kadhimi added that the meeting discussed the selection of a candidate for the coordination framework and the most suitable person to assume the position of Prime Minister, indicating that this matter will be resolved after the election of the Speaker of Parliament and his two deputies.
He revealed that there are five candidates for the position, including the current Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, former prime ministers, and National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji, stressing that one of the candidates will be chosen as soon as possible.
Earlier, Abdul Rahman al-Jazaeri, a leader in the coordination framework, told Shafaq News Agency that negotiations regarding the selection of the new prime minister had reached a “near-dead end” due to the lack of consensus among Shiite forces on any of the proposed candidates.
He pointed out that the position will not be decided without American approval, noting that renewing the mandate of the outgoing Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani faces objections within the framework, including from the State of Law Coalition and the Supreme Council.
Although he did not name him as the leading candidate, Al-Jazairi stressed that all Shiite forces know his identity, stressing that the current stage requires choosing a figure who enjoys international and regional acceptance in order to overcome the political deadlock.
So far, the coordinating framework, which includes Shiite political forces, has failed to agree on the formation of the new government, and confirms in official positions the continuation of dialogues and discussions between all political parties regarding the upcoming national entitlements.
