On Thursday, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, discussed with the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, Josh Harris, support for monetary stability in Iraq, with the latter affirming the continuation of US support for Iraq to achieve its goals in strengthening financial and monetary stability.

The Central Bank’s media office said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, received the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, Josh Harris.”

The statement noted that “prospects for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries were discussed, and the importance of supporting monetary and economic stability was emphasized, in line with the requirements of political and security stability in Iraq.”

Harris emphasized, according to the statement, “the United States’ keenness to strengthen its relations with Iraq, and to support everything that would consolidate stability and keep the country away from any factors that might contribute to destabilizing its situation.”

Harris praised the “significant reform developments undertaken by the Central Bank of Iraq, and the distinguished and productive relations it has with the US Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve.”

For his part, Al-Alaq expressed his thanks and appreciation for “the continued support provided by the United States of America, represented by the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve, especially during the quarterly meetings, while reviewing the banking reform plan, the remarkable progress in stabilizing foreign transfer operations, and regulating the sale of dollars in accordance with best practices and international standards.”

The statement explained that “at the end of the meeting, Harris expressed his full readiness to continue supporting the efforts of the Central Bank of Iraq, enabling it to achieve its goals in promoting financial and monetary stability.”
