Parliament questions Al-Alaq and bank managers about dollars - liquidity and loansShafaq News – Baghdad
An informed source revealed on Tuesday that the House of Representatives will host the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Ali Al-Alaq, next week to discuss a number of important economic and financial issues, most notably the rise in the dollar exchange rate and the liquidity crisis that has caused delays in the payment of salaries to employees and retirees, in addition to other related issues, most notably “loans”.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that the meeting will also include the directors of state-owned banks, particularly Rafidain and Rasheed banks, to discuss the financial liquidity crisis, the decline in the banks’ assets, questions regarding the fate of funds and financial allocations, as well as the lack of a clear credit plan.

He pointed out that among the issues raised for discussion was the Rafidain Bank granting special approvals for advances and loans with large sums of money, which were done on the basis of favoritism and nepotism, in addition to recording major administrative violations within the bank.

The source added that the hosting session will also address the file of the establishment of the first Rafidain Bank, the lack of disclosure of the details and mechanisms of its establishment, and questions about whether it represents the beginning of the privatization of the bank and its transfer to the private sector or the involvement of investors in it, in addition to the contracts that the bank signed with companies, and the legality of signing those contracts.

He indicated that the meeting will also discuss the mechanism for selling dollars to travelers through Al-Rafidain Bank, which relies on electronic booking days before the travel date. This mechanism has been described as complex compared to other banks and exchange companies that rely on direct sales, in addition to other issues that will be discussed.

Speaker of Parliament Hebat al-Halbousi had previously announced that Parliament would host, during the coming week, a number of officials from the Financial Control Bureau, the Integrity Commission, the Federal Service Council, and provincial councils, in addition to the Governor of the Central Bank, the Head of the Martyrs Foundation, and the Head of the Retirement Authority, within the framework of the Council’s oversight role.
