Former MP Abbas Sarout confirmed on Sunday that the next government will face five critical and extremely difficult issues, while noting that 2026 will be a year full of challenges and needs a clear roadmap to overcome its crises.
Sarout told Al-Maalouma that “forming the next government is extremely important in order to carry out the tasks assigned to it, especially since political agreements represent a fundamental element in ensuring the participation of all components through their political forces, as happened in previous sessions.”
He added that “the next government will face five files that represent difficult challenges, foremost among them the financial crisis and ways to contain it, and the endeavor to overcome the pressures related to securing salaries and financial entitlements, as well as financing stalled projects.”
He explained that “among the challenges are also raising non-oil revenues, achieving stability in budget financing, in addition to confronting the repercussions of the decline in oil prices and its direct impact on the country’s revenues, as well as internal, regional and international issues.”
Sarout pointed to the “need to adopt a flexible government work program based on objectivity in dealing with crises, especially financial ones,” stressing that “2026 will be a difficult year, with significant challenges requiring bold decisions and wise management.”
