Former MP Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a leading figure in the State of Law Coalition, confirmed on Thursday that the Coordination Framework does not favor the emergence of a new leader for the next prime minister and is working to resolve the competition among the currently nominated candidates. He indicated that Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, enjoys broader acceptance within the framework compared to Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, head of the Reconstruction and Development Alliance.
Jaafar told the Information Agency that “the Coordination Framework meetings are continuing in a positive and comfortable atmosphere, without any disagreements or complications,” noting that “a final decision regarding the prime ministership has not yet been made.”
He added that “the competition remains between Maliki and al-Sudani, along with Haider al-Abadi, head of the Victory Alliance, who has also entered the race.” He explained that “the Coordination Framework prefers to choose one of these three names, without nominating a new figure, to avoid creating a new leadership.”
Jaafar pointed out that “the leaders of the Coordination Framework have ample time to reach a final agreement on a prime ministerial candidate, unlike the Sunni and Kurdish blocs, which are nearing the end of the constitutional deadline for selecting candidates for the presidencies of Parliament and the Republic.”
