Former MP Mu’in al-Kadhimi revealed on Wednesday that the nomination for the position of Prime Minister has been narrowed down to six candidates, in addition to the competition between the Badr and Asa’ib blocs for the position of First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Al-Kadhimi told Al-Ma’louma that “the meetings of the Coordination Framework are ongoing to reach an agreement on a candidate for the position of Prime Minister, with the list of nominees reduced to three individuals who have previously held the position of Prime Minister, and three others.”
He added that “the Coordination Framework may present a candidate for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament before the first session of Parliament, scheduled for the 29th of this month.”
He explained that “the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament will be contested between Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq and Badr, and if the State of Law Coalition wants to retain its candidate for the position of Prime Minister, it will not nominate any candidate for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament,” noting that “the Framework will be obligated to present a candidate for the position of Prime Minister after the selection of the Speaker of Parliament is finalized in the first session of Parliament.”
