The Ministry of Transport revealed on Sunday that the Nasiriyah International Airport project is progressing towards becoming operational.
The director of the ministry’s media office, Maitham Al-Safi, said in a statement to the official newspaper that “Nasiriyah International Airport was completed according to the latest technical specifications, and includes a main runway qualified to receive various types of civilian aircraft, in addition to connecting taxiways and parking areas, which ensures high smoothness in takeoff and landing movements.”
He explained that “the airport includes a modern and integrated passenger terminal, equipped with advanced service systems that meet the requirements of travelers and airlines, as well as a control tower equipped with the latest communication and air navigation systems, in addition to security and safety systems, inspection devices, and fire and rescue systems, in order to achieve the highest levels of air safety.”
He pointed out that “the project also includes service and administrative buildings, a VIP lounge, air cargo facilities, as well as fuel and energy systems and external connecting roads, stressing that these facilities form an integrated operational system that enhances the airport’s readiness to operate at full capacity as soon as the start of operations is announced.”
He explained that the ministry, although no final opening date has been announced yet, is focused on meticulously completing all technical and operational requirements to ensure the airport operates according to the highest standards of quality and safety, thus achieving operational sustainability and enhancing the efficiency of services provided.
