Judge Zeidan - Constitutionally the session of December 29 cannot be postponed or extendedThe head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zaidan, stressed on Saturday the importance of deciding on the appointment of the Speaker of Parliament and his two deputies, noting that it is not constitutionally possible to postpone or extend the session.

A statement from the council read, “The President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Dr. Faiq Zaidan, received Saturday, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party, Mr. Bafel Talabani. During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of respecting the constitutional timelines for electing the three presidencies, in order to ensure the completion of the formation of the legislative and executive authorities.”

Zaidan explained, according to the statement, that “the first session of the new House of Representatives on 29/12/2025 must end with the appointment of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and his two deputies, and it is not constitutionally or legally possible to postpone or extend it.”

The Speaker of the Council stressed “the importance of deciding on the nomination of the candidate for the presidency of the Republic within the constitutional period of thirty days after the election of the Presidency of the House of Representatives on the 29th of this month.”

It is noted that President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid set the date for the first session of the House of Representatives on December 29, 2025.
