Political and security affairs observer Sabah al-Akeeli confirmed on Saturday that the government of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ignored the agreement for the withdrawal of the US-led international coalition forces, which stipulates the complete withdrawal of foreign forces by the end of this year.
Al-Akeeli told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the Iraqi government’s failure to demand that the American side implement the terms of the agreement and withdraw its forces completely is one of the most prominent criticisms of the Sudanese government, and reflects the weakness of its position in dealing with the United States.”
He added that “the American side, instead of adhering to the withdrawal agreement, recently increased its forces by about 1,500 soldiers inside the Ain al-Asad base in Anbar province,” noting that this step came despite the report of the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Muhammad al-Hassan, which was recently submitted to the Security Council and confirmed that the security situation in Iraq is stable and does not require the presence of foreign forces.
It is worth noting that Iraq and the United States, which leads the international coalition forces, have signed an agreement stipulating the complete withdrawal of foreign forces from the country by the end of 2025.
