The US Treasury announced on Saturday that Japan and the United Kingdom, the two largest holders of US bonds, had increased their holdings, while China had reduced its holdings. It also noted that two Arab countries were among the top 20 holders.

The Treasury said in its latest 2025 schedule, which was reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, that “Japan and the United Kingdom increased their holdings of US bonds to $1.2 trillion and $877 billion respectively for last October, while China reduced its holdings of bonds to $688 billion after it had been $700 billion.”

She added that “Saudi Arabia and the UAE were among the top 20 countries holding US bonds, with their holdings reaching $134 billion and $110 billion respectively,” noting that “Iraq is still, for the second year, outside the top 20 countries holding the most of these bonds.”

She pointed out that “the total value of bonds issued by countries around the world amounted to $9.242 trillion.”

It is worth noting that Iraq owns approximately $32 billion in US bonds, which are considered one of the country’s reserve investments.
