Former member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Ayoub Al-Rubaie, called on Thursday for the adoption of what he called the “Drone Academy” to develop the weapon of the future, which would enhance Iraq’s ability to confront internal and external challenges at lower costs of up to 50%.
Al-Rubaie told Al-Maalouma that “the developments witnessed in the global military scene during the past three years have proven, beyond any doubt, the importance and high effectiveness of drones in the fields of reconnaissance and tracking, up to carrying out attacks, at a lower material cost of up to 50%, in addition to their high accuracy in hitting targets, which ranges between 90 and 100%.”
He added that “these facts call for proceeding with the establishment of a specialized academy for drones at the national level, concerned with manufacturing and development, and which can be employed in multiple fields, including agricultural and research uses, as well as security and military tasks,” stressing that “drones undoubtedly represent the weapon of the future.”
Al-Rubaie pointed out that “Iraq is still lagging behind many countries in utilizing this advanced weapon, despite its potential to become a significant and active player in strengthening internal and external security, particularly in monitoring border areas and tracking complex regions that could pose threats to national security.”
