Diaa al-Nasiri, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed that the file of the three presidencies is still open, indicating that the political competition has entered its first stages without reaching any final decision regarding the sovereign positions.

Al-Nasiri told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the three presidencies have not yet been decided, and the competition has just begun, amidst intense political activity and internal contacts between the major blocs,” noting that “the current stage is witnessing repositioning and undeclared alliances that may change the balance of power in the coming period.”

He added that “former Speaker of Parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi is trying to return to the presidency of Parliament, and he has conducted several political rounds during the past week in an attempt to dismantle the existing reservations within the Sunni bloc,” indicating that “the competition for the presidency of Parliament is now limited to al-Halbousi and al-Samarrai, with other names absent from the scene.”

Al-Nasiri pointed out that “the number of votes is no longer a decisive factor in determining the presidencies, as political understandings and agreements between the components have become the basis for decision-making,” stressing that “the division within some forces, especially the Sunni forces, has contributed to complicating the scene and prolonging the negotiation process.”

Regarding the presidency, Al-Nasiri explained that “neither of the two names previously circulated, Hoshyar Zebari or Fuad Hussein, has been officially or seriously put forward at this stage,” noting that “the Kurdish forces have not yet decided on their candidate and are waiting for the outcome of the comprehensive understandings.”

Al-Nasiri concluded by saying, “The prime ministership remains the last position to be filled according to the constitutional timeline, and it will be decided after the remaining presidencies are filled, within a comprehensive political agreement aimed at avoiding deadlock and ensuring the stability of constitutional institutions.”
