Jin Xin, Assistant Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, announced on Sunday the importance of investing in bilateral cooperation with Iraq, while explaining that his country seeks to reduce customs duties in a way that serves Iraqi products.
This came during a speech he delivered at a seminar on China’s new development plan and Iraqi-Chinese cooperation opportunities, held in the capital, Baghdad, with the participation of Iraqi and Chinese officials and attended by a correspondent from Shafaq News Agency.
Jin Xin stated at the symposium, “I am pleased to visit Iraq, especially since there is a long-standing civilization between China and Iraq. In recent years, trust between the two countries has increased, and at the end of 2022, the Chinese President and the Iraqi Prime Minister met and agreed to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.”
He pointed out that “this year marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of the cooperation agreement between the two countries, and during this period there has been economic cooperation and many opportunities, especially since China has achieved great progress in the field of economic innovation and China’s budget in the field of technology is considered second only to America.”
He pointed out that “China has succeeded in bringing Saudi Arabia and Iran closer together and in reconciling the Palestinian factions. China has also put forward the Belt and Road Initiative, and Iraq has put forward the Development Road Strategy.”
He stressed that “China is seeking to reduce customs duties in a way that benefits Iraqi products, with the possibility of developing bilateral cooperation, especially since next year there will be a summit of the League of Arab States in China, in coordination with Iraq, which currently holds its presidency.”
