United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday praised Iraq’s courage and determination to overcome terrorism, noting that the country now enjoys security and safety.
Guterres said during a joint press conference with caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani: “We have witnessed Iraq’s courage, steadfastness and determination in overcoming terrorism,” stressing that the UN mission’s goal was to “support Iraq and its government in facing the challenges.”
He added that “Iraq today is different from what it was before, and enjoys security and safety, and has become a normal country, and the whole world must understand that,” noting the United Nations’ appreciation for “Iraq’s commitment to returning its citizens from the Al-Hol camp in Syria.”
