President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed on Friday (December 12, 2025) that Iraq, after many years of isolation, has returned to playing its pivotal role at the regional and international levels, noting that the country is now playing active roles within international and UN organizations in the political, economic and developmental fields.
During his speech at the opening of the International Forum for Peace and Confidence in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat, which was followed by “Baghdad Today”, the President said that “the world is going through a very delicate situation, and the current stage requires taking decisive steps to stop conflicts and put an end to the suffering of peoples.”
Rashid added that “Iraq has suffered over the past decades from a heavy legacy of wars, conflicts, terrorism and tyranny, which has left enormous losses, but today it seeks to consolidate security and stability, enhance economic and social conditions, support the paths of construction and reconstruction and achieve the goals of sustainable development.”
He affirmed Iraq’s commitment to establishing balanced and effective relations with its regional and international environment based on peace, cooperation, and the rejection of wars and conflicts, stressing the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue through the implementation of international resolutions and granting the Palestinian people their legitimate rights.
He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to stop the attacks, especially by the Zionist entity in Syria, Lebanon, Qatar and Iran, warning of the Middle East sliding into a war in which there are no winners.
The President also expressed “Iraq’s support for all international efforts to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war,” stressing that “dialogue and convergence are the best way to resolve conflicts, and that economic and environmental challenges require effective cooperation and coordination based on solidarity, trust and shared responsibility.”
