MP Haider Al-Salami settled the controversy on Friday regarding the maps of the Iraqi-Kuwaiti maritime areas, stressing that they directly guarantee Baghdad’s maritime rights.
Al-Salami told Al-Maalouma that “Iraq’s maritime rights overlooking the Arabian Gulf are of paramount importance, as they represent a fundamental pillar for securing safe passages to the southern ports in general,” noting that “after more than five months of follow-up by the parliamentary committee and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the maps of the Iraqi-Kuwaiti maritime areas were deposited with the United Nations, in an important step to preserve Iraq’s maritime rights.”
He added, “This step will secure the establishment of these areas with their lines and directly guarantee Baghdad’s maritime rights by depositing them with an accredited international organization,” emphasizing that “Iraq’s maritime rights are a red line that cannot be compromised, and pressure has been exerted to secure them through the international organization.”
