Al-Maliki - Practical duty dictates that the framework decide on the prime ministership without resorting to the religious authorityThe independent politician Abbas al-Maliki asserted on Thursday that practical necessity dictates that the Coordination Framework should finalize the selection of the next prime minister without resorting to the religious authority to resolve the matter.
Al-Maliki told Al-Maalouma, “The forces within the Coordination Framework must choose a strong, wise, and decisive figure. Otherwise, the competition and each bloc putting forward a candidate simply to secure the prime ministership, regardless of competence and ability, is a dangerous matter and puts the Framework in a difficult position.”
He added, “Iraq is currently experiencing major financial, economic, and political crises, which necessitates bringing in a figure with specific qualifications and the ability to lead Iraq through this sensitive period.”
He explained that “it has become practically imperative for the Coordination Framework not to involve the religious authority in the selection of the next prime minister, especially since the religious authority feels extremely awkward when asked to choose a specific individual for this position from among numerous candidates, as this would create a trap that generates widespread controversy. The religious authority is far removed from this issue and does not seek to engage in it.”
