Zuhair Al-Jalabi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, revealed sensitive political developments that precede the stage of deciding on the formation of the new government, stressing that the scene is still complicated due to the disputes within the winning blocs and the escalating foreign interventions.
Al-Jalabi told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the Federal Court may move in the near future to exclude an important figure from the winners of the parliamentary elections, which will further complicate the political scene and the distribution of seats within Parliament.”
He added that “the delay in choosing the president of the republic has begun to have a negative and direct impact on the nomination of the prime minister, which is delaying the steps to form the government.”
Al-Jalabi pointed out that “the most prominent development at present is the Coordination Framework’s decision not to grant a second term to the current Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, and that the next candidate will be a name close to the winning blocs within the framework, which will ensure broader consensus and the ability to control the next stage.”
He explained that “the next stage requires a prime minister who enjoys the confidence of the resistance factions and the winning political blocs, especially since the security and economic challenges require a leadership that is agreed upon within the Shiite community and the rest of the components.”
Al-Jalabi accused “the United States and some political lobbies of blatant interference in the process of selecting the next prime minister,” stressing that “these pressures are being exerted to try to change the course of internal understandings, which is rejected by the national forces that insist on a purely Iraqi decision.”
Al-Jalabi affirmed that “the coming days will witness intensive efforts to resolve the positions of President and Prime Minister,” stressing that “overcoming foreign interference and reaching an internal consensus will determine the shape of the next government and its political course over the next four years.”
