Economic researcher Diaa Abdul Karim confirmed that the absence of a budget and the lack of timetables for the current year will disrupt the country’s financial situation and hinder various projects.
Abdul Karim told Al-Maalouma, “The government previously prepared a three-year budget, but it expires at the end of this year. The budget for next year should have been prepared and voted on before the elections to ensure we don’t enter a dark tunnel.”
He added, “Entering the new year without a budget means continuing to spend according to the 1/12 system. While the government may be formed quickly at the beginning of this year, assuming administrative and ministerial duties will delay the budget’s approval for at least six months.”
He explained that “the failure to legislate a budget will plunge the country into a financial spiral, especially since there are many ongoing projects in various sectors. Consequently, these projects will be halted, in addition to other sectors that require funding.”
