A source close to the Coordination Framework confirmed on Monday that the process of selecting the next prime minister is proceeding smoothly and according to the agreed-upon procedures within the framework. The source indicated that what is being circulated in the media does not reflect the reality of the situation but rather aims to stir controversy and distract public opinion.
The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Al-Maalouma, “The discussions within the Coordination Framework are proceeding without any significant complications, and what is being published on media platforms has no connection whatsoever to the dialogues taking place within the framework.” The source explained that “much of what is being presented in the media is motivated by sensationalism and nothing more.”
The source added that “the mechanism adopted within the framework grants the right to nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister to any entity holding 25 seats or more. This applies to three parties: the Reconstruction and Development Bloc, the State of Law Coalition, and the Sadiqun Bloc headed by Sheikh Qais al-Khazali. However, the latter declined to run, leaving the competition between Maliki and Sudani.”
He explained that al-Sudani “was excluded from the nomination due to the mistakes that occurred during his tenure as Prime Minister, which means he has two options: either to present an alternative to himself, or to leave the field open to the State of Law Coalition’s candidate, Nouri al-Maliki.”
Jasim Mohammed Jaafar, a leader in the State of Law Coalition, confirmed in a statement to Al-Maalomah that the coalition has two plans, A and B, for selecting a candidate for the premiership. The first plan involves deciding between al-Maliki and al-Sudani, while the second plan involves considering other candidates.
