Independent politician Abbas al-Maliki confirmed that the religious authority has refrained from expressing any opinion regarding the selection of the next prime minister or nominating a candidate for this position.
Al-Maliki told Al-Maalouma, “What is being circulated about the Coordination Framework’s intention to seek the religious authority’s assistance in choosing the prime minister is an ill-advised step should the Framework proceed with it.”
He added, “This step will fail if pursued, as the Framework will not receive a response from the religious authority, especially since its position is clear and explicit to everyone, having refrained from expressing its opinion on this matter. This means the religious authority will not tell the Framework to choose a specific candidate for prime minister, as the failure of this candidate would lead many malicious individuals to hold the religious authority responsible for the prime minister’s shortcomings.”
He clarified that “the religious authority is well aware of the issue and will not interfere in expressing an opinion regarding the selection of the new prime minister, which necessitates that the Coordination Framework resolve matters among its political forces.”
