The official spokesperson for the Victory Alliance, a component of the Coordination Framework, Salam al-Zubaidi, confirmed on Tuesday that Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, head of the Reconstruction and Development bloc, has completely lost his chance to run for a second term as prime minister within the framework. He indicated that al-Sudani is currently relying on regional support, but this gamble “will not achieve his goal.” Al
-Zubaidi told the Information Agency that “al-Sudani lost the support of the majority of the framework’s forces due to the mistakes he made during his tenure as prime minister, the latest of which was the issue of sanctions against Hezbollah and the Houthis.”
He added that “al-Sudani is still clinging to his candidacy despite losing political cover within the framework, with the exception of one bloc that still aspires to obtain specific ministerial portfolios.” He explained that “al-Sudani’s insistence is based on his reliance on regional players, but this gamble will not pay off.”
Al-Zubaidi pointed out that “the figure the framework will put forward for the position of prime minister will enjoy regional acceptance and maintain balanced relations that take into account the delicate balances in the region.”
It is worth noting that the leaders of the framework held their 253rd periodic meeting yesterday, Monday, at the office of the head of the National Approach Alliance, Abdul Hussein al-Moussawi, to discuss developments in the local scene and the issues on their agenda, according to a statement from the framework’s media office.
