The Victory Coalition, led by Haider al-Abadi, revealed on Tuesday new developments regarding the coordination framework meeting held on Monday concerning the nomination of the next prime minister.
Coalition spokesman Salam al-Zubaidi told Shafaq News Agency that “the meeting of the framework leaders discussed the work of the committee tasked with selecting the prime minister,” noting that “the file has witnessed remarkable progress in light of regional transformations and changes.”
He added that the discussion focused on the personality of the next prime minister, who must possess qualities capable of managing external balances, in light of American pressures and influential regional equations.
Al-Zubaidi pointed out that the leaders of the coordination framework discussed a number of names nominated for the position, and the nomination was limited to three figures who meet the criteria and conditions of the new prime minister, the most prominent of whom were Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, Haider al-Abadi, in addition to a third figure who may be a surprise.
The spokesman continued, saying that the Coordination Framework will officially and definitively announce its candidate for Prime Minister after the Sunni political forces agree on the name of the next Speaker of Parliament, and also after the Kurdish forces reach an agreement on their candidate for the presidency, noting that the Framework is almost in agreement on choosing one of the three names proposed.
The periodic meeting of the Coordination Framework witnessed an “important development” with regard to the selection of the candidate to fill the position of head of the new government, while the attendees stressed the need to set specific dates for resolving the electoral entitlements, according to a statement issued by the Framework yesterday evening.
The Coordination Framework had previously set conditions and criteria that must be met by candidates for the position of head of the new government, most notably that he should not be the leader of a political bloc, then it softened them, which opened the door for most of the forces within the framework to submit their candidates for the position, according to what a political source told Shafaq News Agency earlier.
It is worth noting that the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq announced on November 17, 2025, the final results of the parliamentary elections, revealing that the Development and Reconstruction Coalition, led by outgoing Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, won 46 seats.
The committee evaluating candidates for the position of Prime Minister, which is part of the Coordination Framework, had previously found that the nominated names came from different parliamentary blocs, others from multiple parties, as well as some independent candidates, but most of these do not meet the criteria for competing for the position of Prime Minister, according to the committee.
