All eyes are on the Federal Court... Awaited ratification and political maneuvering for the formation of the new governmentInformation/Baghdad…
Political parties from various components are continuing their efforts to decide on the selection of the three presidencies, although the process is still in its early stages. After the Federal Court approves the election results, the political forces will have to decide their positions and choose the figures who will assume their responsibilities in the presidencies of the Republic, Parliament, and the Council of Ministers, amid expectations that the decision will be delayed until understandings and agreements are reached between the various parties regarding the figures who will be nominated for the aforementioned positions.

Imran Al-Karkoushi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, told Al-Maalouma, “The issue of choosing and electing the Prime Minister to assume the duties of the head of government is not at all linked to any law, regulations, or even conditions that govern the final selection of the new president. The selection of the new president is still dependent on understandings and agreements between the political parties, and the distribution of responsibilities and shares among the blocs participating in the political process. This matter requires more time from the coordinating framework and other forces.”

Al-Karkoushi indicated that “the delay in the formation of the government may extend beyond the entire month of December, as the political parties are still at the beginning of the process, as there is no resolution to the aforementioned issue, and the Federal Court is still expected to ratify the final election results, after which the political forces will have the duty to conclude their dialogues to choose the person who will assume the presidency of the next government.”

It appears that things are heading towards a delay in the formation of the new government, due to political reasons related to all components, and pending the Sunnis and Kurds finalizing their positions and presenting their candidates for the presidency of the republic and parliament.

In this regard, Turkmen leader Jassim Al-Bayati confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “the Coordination Framework will delay submitting its candidate for the premiership at the present time, and will keep the list of candidates limited to a narrow scope until the selection of the Kurdish candidate for the presidency is decided,” explaining that “revealing the Framework’s candidate may expose him to attempts at political discrediting, which makes it necessary to postpone naming the final candidate until after the election of the president.”

The Electoral Commission announced that the judicial body has resolved all appeals submitted against the election results and completed them, and they will be sent by the Commission to the Federal Court for resolution within the next two days.

The head of the commission’s media team, Imad Jamil, stated in a televised interview monitored by Al-Maalomah that “the Electoral Commission is committed to announcing the results and delivering the recordings to the political entities, and has been meticulous on this matter.” He clarified that “none of the appeals contained recordings confirming results different from those announced by the commission.” He further explained that “the commission is keen to expedite the remaining steps, and the Board of Commissioners will submit the election results to the Federal Court for ratification within the next two days.”
