Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani affirmed that the new US consulate in Erbil is a “strong fortress,” while emphasizing his support for US President Donald Trump’s peace initiatives.
Barzani said during his speech at the opening ceremony of the new US consulate building in Erbil, which was attended by Shafaq News Agency, that “this US consulate in Erbil is like a mountain and an impregnable fortress in Kurdistan, and the United States has stood with the Kurdistan Region during difficult times and provided support and assistance.”
He added, “The United States also helped us build this country we live in, and we fully support the policy of US President Donald Trump, which says peace through strength.”
He continued, “We affirm our commitment to working with the United States and also with Baghdad. Currently, as we are in the process of forming a new government in Iraq, we aspire to form a government that meets the aspirations of the people and resolves the problems and crises.”
The opening ceremony of the new US Consulate building in Erbil took place a short while ago, in the presence of officials. During his speech at the opening, the President of the Region, Nechirvan Barzani, emphasized the strong relationship between the Region and the United States, and the great partnership between them, during the opening of the new US Consulate building in Erbil, which is the largest consular building.
The opening came as a step that confirms Washington’s long-term commitment to supporting Iraq and Kurdistan, and demonstrates the extent of its partnership with Erbil.
The meeting was attended by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Resources Michael Regas, who arrived in Iraq two days earlier on an official visit aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
Part of Rigas’s agenda is to review the operations of American diplomatic facilities in Iraq.
