The US Treasury Department announced on Sunday that Iraq is not among the top 20 holders of US bonds, noting that only one Arab country was on the list .
The Treasury stated in its latest 2025 schedule, which was reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, that “Iraq remains, for the second year, outside the top 20 countries with the most holdings of these bonds .”
She added that “Saudi Arabia was among the top twenty holders of US bonds, with its holdings amounting to $134 billion .”
It is worth noting that Iraq holds approximately $32 billion in US bonds, which are considered one of the country’s reserve investments .
The total amount of bonds held by countries around the world is $9.249 trillion, with Japan ranking first by increasing its holdings of these bonds to maintain its position as the largest holder of US bonds, while China reduced its holdings .
According to the same table, Japan increased its holdings of US bonds, reaching $1.189 trillion in September, up from $1.180 trillion in August, while China reduced its holdings to $700 billion, down from $701 billion.
