The former head of the Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee, Furat Al-Tamimi, called on Thursday for the revival of the agricultural aircraft squadron file, which has been left for more than ten years without activation, despite its strategic importance in combating agricultural pests.
Al-Tamimi told Al-Maalouma that “the Ministry of Agriculture imported a squadron of aircraft designated for agricultural purposes more than ten years ago, but they remained sitting idle at an airport without any use, despite the urgent need for them to support pest control plans.”
He added that “these aircraft were purchased with huge sums of money, which necessitates urgent action to resolve the technical and administrative problems that have disrupted their operation, and to work on their maintenance, modernization and return them to service again,” stressing that they “will represent an important addition in completing the schedule of control operations in the governorates, especially with the growing spread of pests that affect orchards, including palm trees.”
Al-Tamimi noted that “reactivating this squadron could create greater flexibility in dealing with agricultural pest control and save considerable time and effort in addressing challenges that threaten local production.”
