Member of Parliament’s Services Committee, MP Baqi Al-Saadi, revealed on Saturday that there is a vision to redevelop the construction materials sector in Iraq with investments reaching tens of millions of dollars.
Al-Saadi told Al-Maalouma that “the construction materials sector in Iraq is experiencing significant obsolescence, especially brick production plants, about 60% of which rely on old kilns that pollute the environment,” noting that “developing this sector has become an urgent necessity because of the wide job opportunities it can provide, through the introduction of modern technologies for the production of various construction materials.”
He added that “Iraq’s imports of construction materials amount to tens of millions of dollars per month, and these funds could have been directed inwards by supporting the national industry,” indicating that “there are investment opportunities in six governorates to establish new factories for the production of construction materials with large sums of money.”
Al-Saadi indicated that “2026 will witness the launch of several projects related to the construction materials sector, which will contribute to meeting the majority of the local market’s needs and redirecting hard currency inwards instead of outwards.”
