Ahmed Abdul Sattar Al-Dulaimi, a member of the United Anbar Alliance, revealed on Sunday that political dialogues have begun between Sunni alliances to form the new government, excluding the Progress Party led by Mohammed Al-Halbousi.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “Sunni political alliances began their dialogues early with Shiite and Kurdish blocs and parties, isolated from the Progress Party, as the head of the Al-Azm Alliance, Muthanna Al-Samarrai, and the head of the Sovereignty Alliance, Khamis Al-Khanjar, were tasked with negotiating with these alliances.”
He added that “Al-Khanjar arrived in Erbil and immediately met with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to discuss the latest developments in the formation of the new government and the visions of the Sunni alliances, away from Al-Halbousi.”
Al-Dulaimi pointed out that “the Progress Party is witnessing political disputes and conflicts after Al-Halbousi’s intention to exclude a number of its leaders following their failure in the parliamentary elections, in addition to the disputes over the distribution of positions.”
He explained that “some party leaders, most notably the losing MP and party spokesperson Yahya al-Muhammadi, threatened to split off after the election results were announced.”
