Member of Parliament Mohammed Al-Ziyadi confirmed on Sunday that violating the constitutional deadlines related to the appointment of the three presidencies has become expected as a result of the continued disputes between political forces and the failure to reach agreements on candidates, noting that the most prominent obstacle is the position of President of the Republic, which requires gaining the confidence of two-thirds of the members of Parliament.
Al-Ziyadi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the process of selecting the three presidencies will witness a complex stage as a result of deep disagreements within the political components regarding agreement on specific candidates for the presidency of the republic, parliament and prime ministership.”
He added that “naming the president of the republic is the most complicated, as the position is the entitlement of the Kurdish component and requires the support of two-thirds of the members of the House of Representatives,” suggesting “the possibility of exceeding the constitutional deadlines, and it is not possible to predict the position of the judiciary regarding this, especially after the head of the Supreme Judicial Council warned the political forces against violating the constitutional deadlines related to the selection of the presidencies.”
The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan, had previously called on political forces to adhere to the constitutional deadlines for forming a government, stressing that no violation of the constitution or the law would be permitted, and indicating that the Federal Court would not delay in ratifying the election results.
