Member of the Sovereignty Alliance, Ahmed Fawaz Al-Dulaimi, revealed on Sunday that Sunni and Shiite political forces have reached a unified position to choose the current Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, to assume the position of Prime Minister in the next government.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalouma News Agency that “the Shiite-Sunni political movement has led to a consensus on choosing the current Interior Minister, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, to head the government, in coordination with most of the Shiite blocs and parties, while also approaching the Kurdish forces about this consensus.”
He added that “the talks to form the central government began early in an atmosphere far removed from previous disputes regarding the mechanism for agreeing on the position of Prime Minister.”
He explained that “Al-Shammari enjoys widespread acceptance among most Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish political alliances due to his successful leadership in managing the security file,” emphasizing that “the nomination of his name did not meet with any objection from the political alliances.”
