Local residents in Anbar province reported on Friday that a number of MPs and candidates who lost in the parliamentary elections removed electricity transformers from some residential neighborhoods on the night the results were announced.
A local source told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “citizens were surprised by the actions of some MPs and losing candidates after they removed transformers from electricity poles in residential neighborhoods, in an action that the source considered irresponsible and reflective of treating serving citizens as an electoral gain.”
The source added that “the losers later stopped cutting off the electricity and began personally contributing to restoring power to some residential neighborhoods. A number of them also informed the Anbar Electricity Department of their readiness to contribute to rehabilitating the electrical grid damaged by the heavy loads,” noting that “these steps revealed the true intentions of the representatives and candidates to the residents of the province.”
