The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) confirmed that the final election results may be announced next week, specifying the date for the complete conclusion of the electoral process. IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai stated to the official news agency that “the Commission is processing the results from polling stations that have not yet submitted them. These results will be entered into the tabulation center, and the votes from those stations will be tallied in preparation for announcing the final results.” She explained that “this process is being carried out concurrently with the resolution of complaints.” She added that “the final results will be announced after the complaints are resolved, possibly as early as next week,” noting that “the announcement of the results is a decision made by the Board of Commissioners.”
She also explained that “all decisions of the Board of Commissioners are subject to appeal before the Judicial Authority for Elections within three days of publication on the official website,” noting that “when the appeals stage is decided, which is 7 working days for the Electoral Commission and 10 working days for the Judicial Authority, we then reach the end of the electoral process.”
She also explained that “all votes are entered into a special program to calculate the Sainte-Laguë formula, where the seats are distributed, and the commission will announce the number of seats.”
Regarding the mechanism for calculating seats according to the Sainte-Laguë system, Al-Ghalai confirmed that “the number of seats is calculated according to a special program by entering the candidates’ votes into this program, which distributes the seats in each governorate separately in a very precise manner.”
