Zuhair al-Jalabi, a member of the State of Law Coalition, confirmed today, Thursday, that some political forces were betting on postponing the elections, while noting that the results of the 2025 vote came as a surprise and were unexpected for all parties.
Al-Jalabi told the Information Agency, “A number of political forces and parties were betting on postponing the elections due to their weak public and organizational readiness, but the insistence on proceeding on the scheduled date disrupted their calculations.”
He added, “The results of the 2025 elections came as a shock to many traditional entities that believed they would maintain their influence, but they lost a significant portion of their electoral base to new forces that emerged as a result of growing public awareness.”
Al-Jalabi pointed out that “the political landscape after the announcement of the results is now open to multiple possibilities, requiring everyone to prioritize the national interest and form balanced alliances that reflect the will of the Iraqi voter, far removed from the language of exclusion and sectarian quotas.”
