Minister of Trade, Atheer Al-Ghurairi, announced on Thursday that the ministry will fully transition to electronic services within three months, and indicated that citizens’ transactions will soon be completed via mobile phone. Al-Ghurairi told the official news agency that “the ministry will fully transition to the electronic system within two or three months, including all its important activities, such as company registration, e-commerce, and the authentication of certificates of origin.”
He also added that “this transformation will begin by employing the electronic system to serve the citizen and then to serve the ministry,” explaining that “this step will provide the citizen with high transparency, reduce routine and bureaucratic procedures, as well as reduce suspicions of corruption, through a mobile application that allows transactions to be completed easily.”
He also pointed out that “the procedures that used to take three or four months, with all the effort, expenses and travel they required, will be completed in seconds via the electronic application.”
He explained that “the digital transformation will allow the ministry to possess a robust database after purging the records of fictitious, duplicate, and deceased names,” confirming that “more than three million names have been deleted, and the updating process is ongoing.” He added that “this data will be linked with other ministries and entities such as the Ministry of Finance, the Tax Department, and the Ministry of Health, in line with the government’s program aimed at digital transformation and simplifying procedures for citizens.”
