The US Treasury Department announced on Thursday that Japan and China, the two largest holders of US bonds, have increased their holdings, while two Arab countries were among the “Big Twenty”.
According to the latest table from the Ministry for 2025, which was reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, Japan increased its holdings of bonds to $1.151 trillion for July, up from $1.147 trillion in June, while China also increased its holdings of bonds to $899 billion, up from $858 billion.
The table showed that Saudi Arabia and the UAE joined the “Big Twenty” by holding US bonds, with their holdings reaching $131.7 billion and $107.8 billion respectively, while Iraq remains outside the top 20 countries with the most holdings of these bonds for the second year.
The total amount of bonds held by countries worldwide reached $9.158 trillion.
It is worth noting that Iraq owns approximately $32 billion in US bonds, which are considered one of the country’s private investments in reserves.
