Representative Firas Al-Maslamawi confirmed, on Wednesday, that Iraq no longer needs the presence of any foreign forces on its territory, stressing that the security forces possess the full capacity to maintain security and confront any external or terrorist threat.
Al-Maslamawi said in a statement to / Al-Maalouma /, that “the continued presence of foreign forces, under any pretext, is no longer justified after the significant development in the capabilities of the Iraqi security services,” noting that “the victories achieved by Iraq in the war against ISIS were with essential support from the members of the armed forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces, who proved their worth on the battlefields.”
He added, “Iraqi sovereignty is indivisible, and any foreign presence represents a violation of it,” noting that “the House of Representatives had previously voted in its previous session on a binding resolution to end the foreign presence in Iraq, and it must be implemented in practice.”
Political forces have renewed their demands on several occasions for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq, considering their continued presence a direct threat to national sovereignty and a source of tension in the region.
