MP Mohammed Al-Shammari confirmed on Saturday that the 2026 government will be a caretaker government, meaning its financial powers will be restricted and its spending will be limited to no more than 12% of the total general budget.
Al-Shammari told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “According to constitutional and parliamentary schedules, 2026 will mark the end of the current parliamentary term, leaving the government in a caretaker capacity until a new government is formed following the elections.”
He added, “This situation will prevent the government from fully utilizing its financial allocations, as spending will be limited to approximately 12% of the general budget, to cover operating and necessary expenses only.”
Al-Shammari pointed out that “the year 2025 will witness the continuation of the current government with its full powers, allowing it to implement its programs and spend fully according to the plans set, before it turns into a caretaker government the following year.”
