An informed political source revealed on Saturday that a US delegation is expected to visit the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, to discuss issues of mutual interest.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, “The visit is a continuation of what was discussed in the meetings held between the Iraqi and US delegations during their participation in the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit, which resulted in a halt to the war on Gaza.”

The source added that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein had met with the American delegation and reviewed Iraq’s vision of the security situation in the region and the necessity of cooperation in this field and other fields, including health, education, and others.

He added, “Iraq aspires to achieve a true partnership that is consistent with the government’s orientations to achieve stability and develop construction and investment projects in a stable and secure environment. It is also keen to play an important role in the stability and security of the region.”

He added, “Iraq seeks a genuine, high-level partnership with the United States, in addition to Baghdad’s willingness to be part of the team working to resolve regional problems with neighboring Iran and Yemen, leveraging its deep ties with all countries in the region.”

Iraq participated in the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, held on October 13, after receiving an official invitation from the United States and Egypt. Iraq is the current chair of the Arab League summit and plays an active role in regional affairs, according to Farhad Alaa al-Din, the Prime Minister’s advisor for foreign affairs.

Iraq’s position remains firm in its call for a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of residents to their homes, noting that Baghdad is continuing its diplomatic efforts to promote security and peace in the region in cooperation with Arab countries and the international community.

The summit discussed regional and international efforts to end the war in Gaza, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and launch a political process to consolidate stability. Israel abstained from participating, while the prisoner exchange plan between Hamas and Israel went into effect in the middle of this month.
