Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi announced that the first phase of the Grand Faw Port project will open by the end of this year.
Al-Saadawi’s assertions came during his speech at the launch of the Iraq International Exhibition for Transport, Airports and Logistics Services, held yesterday, Wednesday, which witnessed the participation of more than 100 companies from 20 Arab and foreign countries. Al-Saadawi said: “This important event represents an intellectual and investment space that embodies the concept of integration in the context of sustainable development, and a scientific and technical platform to showcase the latest developments in the fields of land, sea and air transport, and to learn about smart systems and logistical solutions that contribute to achieving fluidity and efficiency. Al-Saadawi added that “the Ministry of Transport has achieved development in the air, sea and land transport sectors over the past years. On the land side, Iraq’s accession to the international TIR system was an important step that paves the way for the development project.”
He pointed out that “the Services Government, headed by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, continues to focus on strategic projects, foremost among them the Grand Faw Port project, a dream that has today become a reality, and here we stand on the threshold of the opening of its first phase at the end of this year.” He pointed out that “the workshops, seminars, and dialogue sessions held on the sidelines of this event, with the participation of experts from inside and outside Iraq, will leave a positive scientific impact that will enhance the success of our strategic projects and ensure a brighter and more sustainable future.”
In turn, the Director General of the Iraqi Ports Company, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said in a speech during the launch of the exhibition: “The government is working with long-term plans and a strong will to make Faw Port a gateway to the largest economic project for the Iraqi state,” stressing that “this project will become a strategic hub linking global supply chains, in line with the development of the transportation sector and the volume of international transportation.”
